De Vinne, Theodore Low. Title-pages as seen by a Printer. NY: Grolier Club, 1901.;view=2up;seq=20;skin=mobile

Title page important because it might induce someone to buy, or not, a book (Xv)

"There are already many books of authority which give valuable facsimiles of early title-pages, but their titles, selected for the most part to show rare books and to gratify the tastes of the librarian and book-collector, do not meet the needs of compositors. It is to supply that omission that these illustrations have been collected." (Xvii)
