The Royal Society published Wilkins' treatise, which became one of the most widely-known of the many -- and many failed -- seventeenth-century plans for a universal system for philosophical communication. Fourteen years after its first edition, the Royal Society published Nehemiah Grew's The Anatomy of Plants, a compilation of his work on the form and function of vegetable life.
