Although Aristotle's image was more widely cited by early Greek commentators, the Timean interpretation of man's head as the seat of his soul became popular among both Hermetic philosophers and Neoplatonic theologians of the Renaissance. By the early seventeenth century, the rationalist and spiritualist tropes had merged to show divine wisdom embedded in man's physical design.
